Living and working in Grass Valley/Nevada City in No. Calif. At work, a co-worker told me. I did my best to shrug it off like it was no big deal. Went home Listened to Anthem of the Sun and remembered.

BVD, I used to live in Nevada City - off Jones Bar Road and then on campus at John Woolman school. What era were you around those parts? Used to listen to KVMR, drink at the English Pub ("Mad Dogs & Englishmen"?), and caught some cool shows, like Richard Thompson, at the Miner's Foundry. RIP Utah Phillips!

Early 9Os. Now living in Pollock Pines. Still listen to KVMR. Taking my kid to Miners Foundry in Oct. He wants to see DSO. I'm looking forward to it as well. Haven't been over there in quite some time. My wife graduated from Nevada Union H.S. early 70s. Are you still in Northern CA.?

Yep (Well, Central Cal but I like to think its still NorCal). Pacific Grove; work in Monterey. When I taught at Woolman in late 80's, among the kids were Utah Phillip's stepson (who lives here and is good friend), Jonathan Richman's step son and Gary Snyder's son Kai. Spent a fair amount up on San Juan Ridge. Also spent time living in Tahoe (Squaw Valley - before the trees were helicoptered out for the condos) If ever headed this way, post a message and let me know. I've met a couple of forumites and all have been great folks

Will do. Let me add if you are ever in the foothills...Is Gary Snyder still up on that ridge? Is he still with us. I remember going to a few Earth Day ceremonies and he was always there. However, that was eons ago? Didn't Utah Phillips run for prez in mid 70s?

Not sure what Gary is up to, but he's still alive - he's pushing 90. One of the few Beat era guys still alive.

Utah did run for Prez; his ex-wfie (my pal's mom) still runs homeless shelter/soup kitchen up that way. Ani Difranco really helped out when she recored and publicized Utah - helped with a lot of medical bills.
